Hoppers
This week I discovered the restaurant Hoppers. Hoppers is considered the best Sri Lankan food to be found in Central London. So I am really excited to share this new find of mine. It is one that has been on lips of so many for a while, that I feel a little like I’m the last person to the party.
I went along with my little pocket rocket of fitness Georgie Spurling, who is all things vegan, and knows a thing or two about good little hot spots, for their diverse menus.
Hoppers is one of those places that is extremely popular for those in the know. There are no reservations, so to guarantee a table at lunch meant arriving at noon, by 12.40 there was a 45mins wait. You cannot come in unless all your party is with you, so none of this saving a table or place!
Eating at Hoppers
We started with taro, cashew & plantation fry, along with dips & bits to die for. I had to sample the calamari, which hit the spot.
Washed down with a very nice Green Papaya Krush and some Sunshine Juice.
Then came the big plain hoppers. What is a hopper you ask? It is the lightest way to eat a curry, made from fermented rice and coconut batter – clean eating I’m told. I had the Fish Kari with mackeral, Georgie was tucking into the Okra & Plantain Kari… It was all kari kari, and it was all very very yummy.
Set in the heart of London’s Soho, there is a lots to look at – life moves at a pace here. As we sat in the window, not only one devilishly good looking actor walked past. As we left I noticed a certain Prince Albert aka Tom Hughes sitting quietly in the corner. “…Ding dong” as the rogue Leslie Thomas said so well – This will be slightly lost on anyone who doesn’t watch Victoria, and doesn’t know the Carry On films. For everyone else, it was that sort of a moment!
Hoppers is as hot and tasty as the food! With that thought in mind, can I suggest you add this to your wish list of places to go right now – if you can’t get to Sri Lanka of course!
HOPPERS has most definitely been added to our Eating by Borough
