Superbloom | The Tower of London
This has to be London’s summer highlight. Seeing the Tower of London surrounded by over 20million seeds that have bloomed into the most glorious colourful landscape. Introducing Superbloom at The Tower of London.
The Tower of London have commemorated The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee by creating an ever lasting legacy of flowers around the Tower’s moat.
Arrive by tube and you can smell the flowers as you walk up to the Tower from the tunnel. It is a scented and spectacular sight. Slide into Superbloom or be sensible and walk in – either way this new installation is very impressive.
Walk amongst a sea of poppies, marigold, cornflowers alongside an original soundscape by Erland Cooper.
As you walk from the South side of the Tower, you will arrive at Spencer Jenkins willow sculpture. With views of Tower Bridge, and the final landscape of flowers encapsulates your picture perfect moment.
Walking along the final part of the display, you reach the East side of the moat. Flying high above this walkway are the most beautiful copper insects by Mehrdad Tafreshi.
Superbloom | The Queen’s Garden
The Queen’s Garden on the riverside of the Tower has an installation by British glass artist Max Jacquard. Historic Royal Palaces commissioned Max to design 12 giant commonwealth symbols and include a crown. The sculptures are all inspired by the motifs from the Queen’s coronation dress.
This summer, you can see The Queen’s coronation gowns on display at Windsor Castle. An added bonus if you pop into Claridge’s Hotel, they have an archive cabinet display with Norman Hartnell’s original drawings. These drawings are the designs submitted to the Queen back in 1952.
This thoughtful urban planting scheme is attracting bees, pollinators and seed-eating birds. If you are lucky and you pass it at night, you will find the glass sculptures illuminated. It is exquisite.
