The Audrey Hepburn inspired afternoon tea at The National Portrait Gallery
Breakfast at Tiffany's | Nostalgia plays a huge part in our lives, and when I saw this Audrey Hepburn inspired afternoon tea, I couldn’t resist it...
I have been a fan of Audrey Hepburn for as long as I can remember, but what I didn’t know was the connection that Audrey Hepburn had with the National Portrait Gallery.
Audrey made her first break as a cabaret dancer in the basement of the NPG when it was Ciro’s. The location of Larry’s, where this new afternoon tea has launched, is THAT spot.
So, where better than to launch an afternoon tea themed on her timeless and elegant performance in Breakfast at Tiffany’s than at Larry’s.
A few weeks ago, I visited with my friends from Paris along with their little two year old. She’s an Anglophile, and she LOVES an English afternoon tea…
Afternoon Tea with a two year old was a first for me, and I learnt quickly that everything happens at speed - especially if it is good, and this was very good. We began with a glass of champagne, but you could have had the Hepburn White Lady cocktail.
Eating those inspired Breakfast at Tiffany’s cakes
The top tier is a joy... It has the Tiffany ‘Blue giftbox’ which is a mars bar cheesecake cube.. to the Pearl necklace macaron, which was strawberry filled vanilla cream with edible pearls. The Manhattan 1960 sunglasses had sea salt caramel which was devoured, and the fun Revlon lipstick was a raspberry cremeux – it was wonderfully original.
The Hubert purse was dark chocolate and passion fruit mousse which we sliced into with trepidation, unsure of what to expect. It was heaven. All given the thumbs up by the French crew, myself and the two year old was on fire!
Sandwiches and savouries consisted of the traditional sandwiches of smoked salmon to a chicken ceasar, but the savouries were my highlight. Loved the corn fritter with avocado cream, there was an Australian wagyu party pie … Merci beaucoup, and the chorizo San Simon croquette with some saffron aioli was delicious.
Nothing tops off a tea without a scone... freshly baked and truly delicious. This is a great value afternoon tea, and is so gorgeous in the setting of the National Portrait Gallery it would be a shame not to give yourself time to walk around and see the beautiful portraits they have up of the icon herself, Audrey Hepburn.
