The Sea, The Sea | Chelsea
As a fresh fish lover, I was particularly excited to see this new restaurant was opening in Pavilion Road. The Sea, The Sea is the new fishmonger / seafood bar in Chelsea from the co-founder of Bonnie Gull in Soho, along with the head chef from Londrino, Leandro Carriera.
The fishmonger at The Sea, The Sea
What makes this restaurant interesting is that primarily it is a fishmongers by day, selling you fresh ‘seasonal’ fish. In fact, 98% of their wild fish comes from British waters. I’m not going to be political, but this is the sort of restaurant we should really be supporting.
These wonderful chefs are your fishmongers. By day their job is to point you in the right direction; to educate and excite you on how to choose and cook your fish, and to help you out of your comfort zone. They can even prepare your fish for you to collect or deliver… By night they set your taste buds alight.
I loved this place before it even opened, and I love it even more now that I’ve spent time in there. I’ll be in there all summer long!
Eating at The Sea, The Sea
This is the sort of restaurant that suits people who like to eat at the bar and share plates of delicious food. You can eat at the bar all day until 4pm. In the evening, the middle fish-counter changes into a table top for the evening bar style counter.
The dishes are served up crudo, to hold their nutritional properties. There is no kitchen as such.
We started with two dishes, the Scottish cod, potato noodles and the Scottish squid with pine nuts and rosemary.
We finished off with the John Dory crudo with white asparagus & crispy parsley that was absolutely exquisite.
All three dishes pleasantly surprised us. We went with their recommendations, and we enjoyed all three. We had a carafe of rose, although I look forward to going back and trying a few of their other wine choices – Mr B especially liked the list.
Verdict on The Sea, The Sea
We absolutely loved the place. The food was excellent, the service was beyond the 10/10 I would give anywhere. Why? Because they all seem to care about what you want, what you ‘feel like’ and sharing their passion for fish, and eating their ethically sourced fish.
These are the sort of small business we should be supporting for all the right reasons. I know I will, will you? Because if you love fish like I do, it is a very easy choice to make.
